Substance Abuse Counseling

  • Anxiety and stressors from quitting, and maintaining sobriety

Trauma Counseling

Most people will experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives, such as a car accident, abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence of war, traumatic pregnancies, child birth, miscarriage, a natural disaster, and more. These types of events can greatly impact your emotional and psychological well being and how you experience yourself and the world around you.

If you’re feeling any of the following, you may be experiencing trauma:

  • Stuck with recurring memories that don't fade

  • Not being able to go to sleep or stay asleep

  • Nightmares and night sweats

  • Being in a constant state of high alert

  • Anxiety or fears triggered by similar events or sensory stimuli

  • Feeling jumpy or onguard all the time

How we help:

Counseling can be a good outlet to start talking about your trauma, and the impact it has had on your life.

Goals of trauma therapy include:

  • To successfully accept and cope with the reality of the traumatic event that occurred

We specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for trauma.

Anger Issues

Anger is a common and acceptable emotion. When it goes unresolved, anger can become destructive, both to yourself and to others. Anger often masks underlying fears and emotions. Through counseling, individuals can uncover the truth behind their anger, and begin the healing process.

During this process, you will develop coping skills to manage overwhelming emotions. You will also learn how to identify the warnings signs for your anger. This will assist you in avoiding destructive behavior.

Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression often present as a pair. While both disorders come with many similarities, and are treated similarly as well, they do have a few differences.

Depression is identified by the feeling of being sad, upset or down for an extended period of time. It can also manifest in both emotional and physical ways. Some of these are listed below:

  • Chronic fatigue or decreased energy

  • Loss of interest or no longer finding pleasure in activities or hobbies

  • Feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, worthlessness, or overwhelming sadness

  • Anger, irritability, or restlessness

  • Thoughts of death or suicide or suicide attempts

While experiencing some anxiety is normal, and even healthy, chronic or high levels of anxiety may indicate a need for intervention. Some of these symptoms are listed below:

  • Difficulty concentrating or recalling

  • Increased heart rate, abnormal muscle tension, teeth grinding

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Feelings of panic, dread, and/or having no control over feelings of worry or fear

  • Restlessness or irritability, feeling like you’re on edge all the time

Intimate Partner Violence (Domestic Violence)

Intimate Partner Violence includes any emotional, physical, verbal or psychological abuse, or harassment experienced in a current or past intimate relationship. This includes non-domestic and non-sexual relationships.

Everyone deserves a relationship free from violence and abuse. We specialize in Intimate partner violence (domestic violence), working with people who use violence and people who have experienced or are experiencing violence in their relationships.

For those experiencing violence: Counseling can help to attain and maintain safety, and help heal the emotional trauma caused by an abusive relationship.

For those who use violence: Counseling can teach you how to recognize triggers, manage anger and aggressive emotions, and ultimately help to identify and heal the underlying issues that lead to using violence.

Military: Active Duty, Veterans & Their Families

Military life can be incredibly challenging for both the soldier and their families. Various factors unique to military families can be stressful and taxing. These may include but aren’t limited to long deployments, stressful combat, and spontaneous relocations.

Common issues plaguing active duty soldiers, veterans and their families include:

  • Post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD)

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Substance abuse

  • Anger and aggression

  • Marital and relationship stress

How we help:

While there may be limitations to what you can disclose, talking to a trained professional familiar with treating military clients, you can start to heal from these stressful and traumatic experiences. Soldiers returning from overseas are especially vulnerable to stress-related psychological disorders.
